Hi, it's been a while since I updated this blog for the last time. Heretofore, I was just not really up into writing anything. But, suddenly most of my friends post their own holiday stories into their own blogsites, I read them and wow, they made their holiday memorized so well. Dont wanna spoiled my holiday memories, I realized 'Hey, I did have a blog, lets just begin to write again!'. And here I am, inside room 42, in a dormitory in Katowice, writing my own su
mmer holiday story..
It was the 19th June 2011, just 3 days after my 18th birthday. I was at the airport with my parents and brother, they're taking me for my flight to Amsterdam. I would join an internship programme at Poland. I made that desicion last December but I didn't realized how much it would take to do that. It felt really hard to let myself go during the family-holiday-time. In fact, this gonna be the longest duration I don't see my parents. Although I'm studying in the other town, I'm still going home every two/three weeks. Never more than that.
My journey here was began from Jakarta to Amsterdam then to Cologne, and Poland. A 16-hrs flight usually doesn't matter for me, but this one, did really excruciating. I couldn't eat anything, not even those delicious cakes and bread they served me. All I felt is just a continous nausea. That was really sucks, because I am a food-lover and I don't wanna missed all the fun and delicacy. And I had no one to tell about this, there weren't my parents who could help me to get some meds or to tell me what to do. Yeah, that time was the first glimpse that I already alone. Alone. Time moved really slow when there's no one to chat with or play with. Thanks god Garuda Indonesia had improved their facility so we can watch movies during the flight, well, those films did help the time move faster.
On the arrival at Sciphol I ittended to search for a free tourist map, but all I can find are just neverending symbols. I needed to find the location for my bus station, which would take me to Cologne. With my 23 kgs luggage I surveyed all the symbols pointed to a 'Tourist Information' but it turned up so far and more hidden than I expected. After all, I took train to go to the bus station. For such a big airport, the information for the trains could be better. And when the train came by all I could say was 'Oh, gosh'. It was a high train, with stairs in front of the doors. And I was carrying a 23 kgs luggage, I almost couln't lift it. So how can I enter the train with this over-weighed luggage? With some extrapower from my arms thanks god I could enter the train. This kind of problem came twice because I had to change train. What a mess. Dont ever go alone with a over-handled luggage guys! no fun at all.
I arrived at the bus station at 9 am, but my bus would depart at 5 pm, so I had to wait for 8 hrs there. I thought that I can put my luggage there while I'm takin a walk, but they said can't. Thanks god there were lockers in a nearby station. Here my walk-trip around Amsterdam started.
I bought a train ticket to Amsterdam Central Station, without knowing where it was, just because it's central, so everything should be there. he he. When I came out, it turned out that it was really Amsterdam central, the same place I visited last December. So, Hello Again Amsterdam :)
Currently, I just found out that he central I meant is a 17th Century Canal District. Walking around this was just a great sightseeing. You can take boat to go around the canal, see the old city of Amsterdam, while there's a information from a speaker, in english of course. Taking this canal trip is a great choice if you go on winter, the boat is really warm and comfortable, you don't have to walk in the winter breeze. After taking the canal trip you can go along the street beside Amstel River and end up at Amsterdam Square ( Dam Square). There are a famous Madame Tussaud Wax Museum, Nieuwe Kerk (New Church), National Monument and Royal Palace. This square is famous for the bird feeding either.
From here you can walk around the city square, visit some funny museums (like erotic museums, etc in the light district area), try the amsterdam speciality fries, klapertaart, waffles or just walking or sitting in a cafe because this city has great old architectures. Also, you can rent a bike, biking is a popular activity here, lots of bikers around the town, even it has a superbig bike park.
After I explored Amsterdam for the third time in my life, I came back to the bus station, and took a bus to Cologne. Wait for my next story about Cologne! :-)
